Orthopantomogram – one of a panoramic scanning dental X-ray taken as a part of a routine examination procedure before treatment. It shows the patient`s detention state, jaw bones and adjacent structures in one picture, which means exposing the patient to minimum radiation (in comparison with 4-5 periapical X-rays). It is indispensable for the process of proper diagnostics of the following conditions: - cysts and tumours
- dental caries
- dysmorphism of the corpus and rami mandibulae
- diseases of maxillary sinuses
- dysmorphism of temporomandibular joints
- assessment of the state of the mastication organ before making dentures
- assessment of the bone height before planned implant surgeries
- concretions in salivary glands
- dysmorphism of dental roots
- localisation of retained teeth
- position of teeth relative to maxillary sinuses
- lack of tooth buds.
Moreover, it allows for an observation of the teeth mineralization and the process of teeth eruption. The advantages of such an X-ray also comprise comfortable conditions for the patient while taking the picture and a possibility to take a picture of a patient that cannot open the mouth.
