Images of temporomandibular joints help to diagnose different conditions of these structures. They are mainly used in dental surgery, prosthodontics and particularly in orthodontics. Disease symptoms of these joints are often discrete and ambiguous, e.g. clicking, headaches, a feeling of "popping” mandible. In such cases radiographic images of the joints in the open and closed position provide information on the causes of the disorder, the localization and the form of abnormalities.
