Cephalometric radiograph – an image used to gauge the cranial and facial bones. It allows to detect injuries or damages, diseases and dysmorphism within the area covered by the image. It shows soft tissues of the face, paranasal sinuses and hard palate. In orthodontic treatment it is used to assess the growth of the facial skeleton. What is more, a detailed analysis of these images helps to gauge the spatial relationships of the teeth, jaws and cranium. It is also indispensable to properly diagnose occlusal abnormalities and to plan proper treatment for individual patients. Comparing the image before and after the treatment allows to assess the treatment effectiveness. The image is indispensable to assess the progress in treatment of temporomandibular joints and relaxation of masseter muscles.
